Seeking volunteers to install plants on June 15!

The Eagle River Fund is thrilled to support the Riverwalk Water Wise Demonstration Garden as its first-ever boots-on-the-ground project. In line with its mission of protecting the quality and quantity of water in the Eagle River Watershed, this project is estimated to reduce current water use across the ~5,600 square-foot project site by 75-80% after the establishment period.

Incorporating stakeholders like the Eagle River Fund, Beyond Lawn Program participants, Edwards Metropolitan District and more from across the public and private sectors, this project transforms a nonfunctional turf space into to a place that inspires similar action on a broader scale. The objective is to reduce the quantity of water used for irrigation by replacing nonfunctional turf grass with native vegetation.

For the planting day on June 15, volunteers will be asked to dig holes in prepared soil, install the plant, and backfill with soil, as well as other tasks as necessary. Prior gardening experience is not necessary, as professional landscapers will be onsite to place the plants and answer questions, but basic knowledge of planting or an interest in gardening would be helpful.
